Raúl Ponce nació en Tucumán en 1942. Estudió en la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán donde egresó como Licenciado en Artes. Desde 1970 vive y trabaja en Buenos Aires. Ejerció como Profesor Titular de la Cátedra OTAV Dibujo en el IUNA (Instituto Universitario de Artes).
